Sew Along With June - Block 5

Block Five

Welcome back!! I hope you had fun making last months block.
I suggest you read all the way through the directions for a block or a whole quilt. If you do it might save you a lot of grief. Sometimes the pattern people pull a fast one on you and do something you are not expecting. I have been caught a couple of times. So be careful.

This week the block is called simply FLOWER BLOCK.

This block requires:

Centre-

(1) charm trimmed to 4.5 inches
(8) 2.5-inch colour (A) squares for corner unit
(8) 2.5-inch background squares for corner unit.

Flying geese set

(4) rectangles 4.5 x 2.5 inches in background fabric
(8) 2.5-inch squares of colour (B) fabric
(4) rectangles 4.5 x 2.5 inches of colour (A) fabric.

4 Patch
Using (2) 2.5-inch colour(A) square and (2) 2.5-inch background squares to make a 4 patch.
Now make three more the same.

Flying Geese
Draw a diagonal line on each of (2) 2.5-inch colour (B) squares. Place one of the squares on a 2.5 x 4.5-inch rectangle of background.
Sew on the line, trim and press. Repeat with the other side of the background rectangle.

Sew the 2.5 x 4.5-inch colour (A) rectangle to the pointy side (new term) of the flying geese (goose?). Repeat with the other flying geese.

Lay out all the units as shown in the picture below and sew together.

Voila you have a beautiful Flower Block!
Ok I should have used a different colour for the flying geese, so it would stand out more. But it is done, and I like it. Can you imagine a whole quilt of these beauties? Have fun.
See you in a couple of weeks.
