Block 10
Summer Picnic Block
Who is ready for a picnic?
I love picnics…. Soggy sandwiches, warm iced tea, ants, bees, flies…. what’s not to love. It’s a great time to spend with family and friends.
This week’s block is called ... you guessed it…. Summer Picnic Block.

Here is what you will need:

(8) 2 ½ “ squares of background fabric

(4) 2 ½ by 6 ½ “ rectangles of background fabric

(4) 2 ½ by 6 ½ “ rectangles of colour A

(4) 2 ½ “ squares of colour B

(4) 2 ½ squares of colour C

On 4 of the 2 ½ “ background fabric squares draw a diagonal line.
Place and sew on the end of a colour A rectangle. Pay close attention to the orientation of the angle. See photo. Press seam open. Make 4 of these units.
Next sew 2 ½ “ square of colour B to 2 ½” square of colour C. Then sew a 2 ½ “ background square to the colour C side of the unit just made.  Press seams in one direction. Make 4 of these triple square units.
Sew a 6 ½ “ background rectangle to the left side of a triple square unit. Press seam open. Then sew triangle unit to the right side of the triple square unit, Being careful of the orientation. Press seam open. Make 4 of these units
Sew the four completed units together as shown in the picture. Press seams open.
Looks sort of like one of those spin wheels that kids play with, doesn’t it? Perfect for a summer day.
