Quilt Along Block 11
Leaf

This week’s block is a leaf. I should have made this for the first of July. But leaf blocks are good any time of year. This one is quite easy to do.

For this lovely little block, you will need:

(12) 2 ½” squares of assorted Prints

(4) 5” different prints for leaf points

(1) 4 ½” print for leaf stem

(4) 5” background squares for leaf points

(2) 3 ¾” squares of background fabric for leaf stem unit

(1) 4 ½” background square

Using the 5” print and the 5” background fabric make 4 half triangle squares. Press to the dark and square to 4 ½”.  I made two each of the same colour.
Make (3) 4 patch units from the (12) 2 ½” print squares.
Leaf stem unit.  Draw a diagonal line on the (2) 3 ¾’ background squares. Place one on the bottom left corner of the of the 4 ½” print square and place the other one on the top right corner of the same print square. Sew on the diagonal lines. Trim to ¼ “and press to background.
Lay out all the units including the 4 ½” background square as shown in the following picture. sew together.
Don’t you just love the various ways the maple leaf block is done. I particularly like this design.
